The Ghost Writer by Philip Roth

The Ghost Writer by Philip Roth

What a great novel. It is so well written, full of such sophisticated prose and insight, until it goes a bit off on one, with an Anne Frank riff following a Henry James riff. This is the first of the Zuckerman Trilogy: Zuckerman Bound (though really it’s a Tetralogy, or maybe a pentalogy, if you include the collection of short stories featuring Nathan Zuckerman), which established Roth as one of the great American authors of the twentieth century. A good reason to read more of Roth, who won the Pulitzer for the Amazing American Pastoral and has written so many more modern classics.
