The Professor of Desire by Philip Roth

The Professor of Desire by Philip Roth

The best of the Kepesh novels, and weirdly doesn’t quite fit with the others in terms of character and plot – the David Kepesh of The Dying Animal seems to have had a very different midlife crisis to the David Kepesh of this novel – an utter fool who can’t help but accede to the demands of his all important sexual desire. This is a tragedy of desire: a protagonist doomed by a sexual desire as powerful as any fate. But a beautifully written book. Roth at his best.
